Howards Grove Riverdogs rally late to clip Plymouth Flames

HOWARDS GROVE – The Howards Grove Riverdogs scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn a 9-8 comeback win over the Plymouth Flames in baseball action Friday night at Memorial Park.

Howards trailed 8-6 going into the last of the eighth. Cole Reinemann’s single pulled the Riverdogs to within 8-7. Reinemann and Brady Callahan, who singled before Reinemann, scored on an infield error which gave the Riverdogs the lead.

The Riverdogs upped their Land O’ Lakes Baseball League Northern Division reccord to 5-10. Howards bounced back from a 14-1 loss to division-leading Cedarburg Wednesday night. The Flames dropped to 7-8 in the division (13-12 overall).

Plymouth grabbed an 8-6 lead after scoring twice in the top of the eighth on Dusty Medved’s double.

The Flames were hurt by five errors which led to four unearned runs by Howards.

Callahan and Reinemann led the Riverdogs’ attack with three hits each. Noah Steines and Mark Holzman added two each.

Plymouth had four batters with two hits each – Jake Klemme, Medved, Michael DuCharme and Matt Schroeder. Medved had a team-high three RBIs.

Reinemann was the winning pitcher. He went the distance and gave up 11 hits and four walks while striking out 10.

Schroeder took the loss in relief. He allowed one run (unearned) on one hit with one walk and a strikeout in one inning.
