Riverdogs outlast Benders in LOL finale

Catcher Kyle Burghard made the throw to Reinemann. — Photo by Jodi Steines The Howards Grove Riverdogs scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to snap a 8-8 tie en route to an 11-8 win over the visiting West Bend Benders Sunday afternoon.

The win gives the Riverdogs a final record of 6-12 in the Land O’ Lakes Baseball League Northern Division. West Bend lost to division champion Cedarburg Monday to finish 6-12 in the league.

Howards, which went 6-5 in __________ league play after an 0-7 start, is seeded No. 6 in the division tournament. The Riverdogs will play at No. 3-seeded Saukville Sunday at 2 p.m. in the first round of the tourney.

Cole Reinemann’s RBI double gave the Riverdogs a 9-8 lead. Camryn Hurtienne followed with an RBI single. Hurtienne tried to stretch his hit into a double but was nabbed at second base. Reinemann scored on the play at second.

Reinemann, Brady Callahan and Kyle Burghard sparked Howards’ attack with three hits each, including a three-run homer by Callahan. Noah Steines contributed two hits.

Reinemann picked up the win in relief of starting pitcher Eric Dickmyer.

The boxscore for the game was unavailable at press time.

THIENSVILLE-HOWARDS GROVE GAME

In league play Saturday afternoon, the Thiensville-Mequon Twins clobbered the Riverdogs, 16-1. The Twins’ bats were led by Colton Poellinger who belted a grand slam and Ryan Worm who slugged a three-run homer.

Poellinger and Erich Uelmen combined on a two-hitter, with Poellinger earning the win. Poellinger, the stater, fanned seven batters and didn’t allow a baserunner until P.J. Weber doubled with two outs in the fifth.

Reinemann’s single in the seventh accounted for Howards’ other hit.

Poellinger, Worm and Kris Ozga led the Twins in hits with two each.

The game was called after 6½ innings due to the 15-run rule.
