RosaLena “Rosie” Miller, age 84, of Glen Ellyn, Ill., formerly of Wheaton, Ill. and Plymouth, Wis., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Ill.

She was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Fort Atkinson, Wis., to the late Carl and Emma (Kochendorfer) Bauman.

Rosie graduated from Fort Atkinson High School and attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee where she received her Registered Nursing degree. She worked as a nurse in hospitals in Sheboygan, Cook County and Madison. She also worked at nursing homes in Rockford, Wheaton and Plymouth. She was the afternoon nursing supervisor at the DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton. Her passion and love of nursing, especially with the elderly, continued until she retired in 1988.

Rosie married Ronald Miller in 1950 and also assumed the role of pastor’s wife as he ministered in parishes in Browntown, Wis., and Rockford and Wheaton, Ill. She and Ron moved to a beautiful log cabin in Plymouth, Wis., when he retired from the ministry in 1983 after serving as pastor of St. Matthew United Church of Christ in Wheaton for 15 years.

Her interests included bird watching, tending to her plants and flowers, and reading. She and Ron enjoyed camping and were one of the early tent campers in the 1950s. Rosie was known for her warm hugs, knowing smiles and loving spirit.

She is survived by her children, Kristine (Monte) Schroer of Wheaton, David (Nancy) Miller of Reedsburg, Wis., and Judith (Mark) Rhoads of Jackson, Wis.; grandchildren, Kevin (Jaclyn) Schroer, Pamela (Robert) Wostratzky, Serena (Paul) Polheber, Adam Miller, Shannon (Brian) Anderson and Hannah (Benjamin) Burrows; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ronald in 2001, and brother, Carl Bauman.

Memorial services for Rosie will be held at 12 noon Saturday, Aug. 17, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Plymouth (1405 State Rd. 67, Plymouth, WI). Pastor William Rishel will officiate. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in the town of Plymouth.

Friends may call at the CHURCH from 11 a.m. Saturday until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name can be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Plymouth, Wis., or to St. Matthew United Church of Christ, Wheaton, Ill.

Arrangements were made by the Williams Kampp Funeral Home in Wheaton and the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth.
