The Tigers evened their CLC record at 1-1 and improved to 4-2 overall. In league play Tuesday, Howards fell to Sheboygan Christian/ Lutheran, 3-1, at Christian.

“We struggled with finishing [shots] and communication. It wasn’t a pretty win but we’ll take it,” said Tiger head coach Todd Fischer.

The Tigers’ attack was led by sophomore forward Derrick Grimm who scored two goals, one assisted by Elijah Murphy. Jordan Fischer and Jacob Rautmann contributed one goal each. Rautmann’s goal came on a penalty kick with three minutes remaining.

Fischer’s tally at the 34:41 mark in the first half gave Howards a 1-0 halftime lead. Devin Gallenberger had the assist.

The Tigers held an 18-6 edge in shots on goal. Tiger goalkeeper C.J. Berg made six saves.

SHEBOYGAN CHRISTIAN/LUTHERAN MATCH

Brandon Wishman booted two goals to spark Sheboygan Christian/ Lutheran past the Tigers. The Eagles, 2-0 in the CLC and 6-0 overall, outscored Howards 3-0 in the second half.

The Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead on sophomore forward Ben Dehne’s goal 15 minutes into the game, assisted by Grimm.

Wishman’s first goal tied the match, 1-1, with 23 minutes left. His second goal out the Eagles up 2-1 with 12 minutes remaining. The final goal was scored by Graham Ver Velde with six minutes left.

The Tigers had only two shots on goal, compared with eight by the Eagles. Berg was credited with two saves in the goal.

“Today’s [Tuesday’s] game was a disappointment. While the weather was extremely hot, both teams had to play in it,” said coach Fischer.

“Our guys played really tough in the first half but just lost their fire in the second half. The Eagles simply outperformed us today.”
