Resorters motivated to perform well

ELKHART LAKE – With several runners back from last season, the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah cross country program has high hopes this season.

While the boys squad returns five letter winners, it has only five total runners on the roster. The girls team’s numbers are up with 10 this season, compared with only five a year ago, including four letter winners.

Junior Jordan Kissinger of the boys team was the Resorters’ top finisher in last year’s Central Lakeshore Conferene Meet with a 24th-place effort. The girls team also has its leading CLC runner back in senior Aryanna Klemme who was 34th.

“We are extremely optimistic. We have five returning runners that have stayed in good shape over the summer,” said secondyear Resorter head coach Christi Lueck-Sadiq.

“Our girls team has grown immensely and we have some strong seniors along with some fast young freshman that I am confi- dent will place.

“Both boys and girls are incredibly focused and want to do a great job,” said Lueck-Sadiq.

“Our only weakness is that our boys team only has five runners, so we need them to all stay healthy to make up a team for meets.”

The coach expects freshmen Jessica Mehre and Holly, senior Izzy Sadiq (coach’s daughter), and junior Shannon Resser to lead the girls squad. Coach Lueck-Sadiq said junior Logan Knepfel will probably lead the boys.

The coach said her top goal this year is to build the cross country program. She has started a feeder program at the middle school level.

“We have a very focused group that wants to do well. The success will come from their drive and me pushing them to run farther and harder than previous years,” she said.

Erin Gross, a former state track runner at Elkhart, will be Lueck- Sadiq’s assistant coach this season

“She will be a wonderful asset to the team,” said Lueck-Sadiq.
