Elkhart, 4-0 overall, has been impressive all season – outscoring the opposition by an average of 64-15 per game.

The Resorters were outstanding on the ground versus the Crusaders as they racked up 257 yards, and Elkhart’s defense forced an impressive seven turnovers in the Great 8 Conference eight-man football game. Elkhart plays in the Great 8 North Division and Maranatha (0-4 overall) is in the Great 8 South, so this contest was a nondivisional matchup.

The Resorters, 1-0 in their division, face their toughest test of the year Friday night when they host Green Bay Northeast Wisconsin Lutheran in a North Division showdown. Lutheran, 4-0 overall, is tied for the division lead with Gibraltar at 2-0.

“The kids were very focused [against Maranatha] and are jelling as a team. I can’t say enough about these guys,” said Resorter head coach Barry Feldmann.

“This was an overall team win. Everyone did their job [on offense and defense].”

Junior quarterback Elliot Van Oss keyed the Resorters’ explosive attack with three touchdown passes and a 37-yard TD scamper. Senior tight end Dan Schneider contributed two scoring runs and a TD reception.

AJ Lallensack and Jared Shaw scored two TDs each for Elkhart which rolled up a 50-6 halftime lead.

Junior tailback Trevor Rebedew scored on a 40-yard run after he recovered a blocked punt by the Crusaders. Rebedew rushed for a teamhigh 88 yards on only seven carries. Van ran for 85 yards on just seven attempts.

Van Oss, a safety on defense, intercepted two passes. Rebedew and Lallensack had one each. Rebedew, a linebacker, also had two fumble recoveries and Schneider, one.

“I was happy with the way the offensive line blocked. They stayed on their blocks,” Feldmann said.

“Van Oss is the general out there [at quarterback]. He has a good combination of running and passing. Rebedew and Shaw ran very well.

“I was very pleased with the defense. They were in the right spots,” the coach said.

The Resorters limited Crusader quarterback Jordan Garrison, a dangerous runner, to only 57 yards on the ground which Feldmann said was crucial for his defense. Garrison gained 53 of his yards on a TD run.

The Resorters committed zero turnovers and only one penalty for 5 yards.

Feldmann is confident the Resorters will play well against NEW Lutheran.

“They’re a good team. We’ve gotten a lot better since we scrimmaged them,” he said.

“The keys for us are to not take any plays off and to play our spots. We’ll play well.”
