Gatzke appointed trustee

WALDO – Galan Gatzke has been appointed to the position of village trustee to serve until the end of the current term, up in April 2014.

The position was vacated by Dan Schneider upon his appointment as village president. On Sept. 3 Schneider was sworn in as the village president following the resignation of former village president Lisa Hagenow.

Schneider’s appointment to the seat of Village President left the board short one trustee, putting Schneider in a position to appoint somebody to fill the seat until the end of his term.

At the Sept. 3 meeting Schneider received suggestions from board members and Hagenow and stated that he would consider the options and that the appointment would be addressed at the regular meeting of the board on Sept. 9.

At the time of the regular meeting however, Schneider was not ready to make the appointment and scheduled a special meeting to follow the Sept. 17 utilities meeting.

“I take it seriously and needed a little bit more time to talk to all the people I wanted to talk to so that’s not going to take place tonight,” Schneider said of the delay at the Sept. 9 meeting.

At the Tuesday evening meeting Schneider stated that he would recommend that Gatzke be appointed and the board voted unanimously to approve the appointment.

“He’s been a long time resident, he’s served on the board in past years and, in my mind, has good decision making abilities and I think he’d be a good addition to the table,” Schneider said.

Gatzke has been a resident of Waldo since 1961 and served on the board for roughly 15 years.
