Shirley A. Grohowski, age 91, of Plymouth, passed away late Tuesday evening, Sept. 24, 2013, at Arbor View Assisted Living in Plymouth.

She was born Oct. 31, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wis., a daughter of the late Starkie and Erna (Lutter) Swenson.

She graduated from Washington High School in 1939. She also attended the State Teacher’s College in Milwaukee.

On May 20, 1944, Shirley married George Grohowski in Milwaukee. The couple resided in the town of Lyndon since 1969. George preceded her in death Nov. 2, 2010.

George and Shirley were true environmentalists. She served as the Easter Seal campaign chairperson.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, embroidering and was an avid reader.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Geoffrey Grohowski of Milwaukee and Gary Grohowski of Plymouth. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; one brother, Starkie L. Swenson and one sister, Gertrude Clark.

Family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5, from 1-3 p.m. at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Following Shirley’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Shirley’s name.
