Resorters bounce back with rout

SEVASTOPOL – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters shook off a slow start and then rolled past Sevastopol, 64-22, in a Great 8 Conference eight-man football game here Friday.

Elkhart trailed 16-14 after one quarter and then outscored the Pioneers 50-6 the rest of the way, including a 28-point explosion in the third period. The Resorters upped their North Division record to 2-1 (5-1 overall). Sevastopol fell to 1-3 in the division (2-4 overall).

Junior quarterback Elliot Van Oss sparked the Resorters’ offense with three touchdown runs and two TD passes. Van Oss led Elkhart’s strong ground game with 82 yards on only nine carries. The Resorters rushed for 253 yards.

Senior tight end Dan Schneider caught two TD passes for Elkhart and was the team’s leading receiver with three catches for 51 yards.

The Resorters’ defense forced three turnovers, including a 20- yard interception return for a score by senior linebacker AJ Lallensack. Jared Shaw had an interception and Brock Bonebrake recovered a fumble.

“We came out flat in the first quarter and I think it was because of the long bus ride. We settled down and got back to what we needed to do, and everyone did their jobs,” said Resorter head coach Barry Feldmann.

“Bouncing back from last week’s game [a 43-8 loss to Green Bay Northeast Wisconsin Lutheran] showed the character of these kids. It was a very good team ef- fort by the special teams, offense and defense.”

The Resorters’ running attack set up the play-action passes well. Feldmann was pleased with the run blocking by the offensive line and fullback Bonebrake.

“Brock did a good job of kicking out their middle linebacker,” Feldmann said.
