Elvira M. A. Nysse, age 93, of Plymouth, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 4, 2013, at the Plymouth Care Center where she had been a resident for the past seven years.

She was born April 11, 1920, in the town of Charleston (Calumet County), Wis., a daughter of the late William and Bertha Ortlepp Schnuell. She attended rural schools and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1938.

She was employed at the Leverenz Shoe Factory in New Holstein and the Waldo Canning Factory.

On April 15, 1944, she married Clarence Nysse in the town of Charleston, Wis. The couple farmed in rural Kiel for nine years, then from 1953-75 in rural Sheboygan Falls, (town of Lima). After retirement in 1975, they moved to Plymouth. Her husband preceded her in death June 1, 2010.

She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Waldo where she belonged to Ladies Aid Society and participated in the Ladies Aid, LWML, the Quilters group and the afternoon Bible Class, all at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth.

She enjoyed sewing, needlework, other crafts and gardening.

Survivors are four sons: Rev. Dr. Richard (Lynn) of Shoreview, Minn.; Kenneth (Carol) of rural Sheboygan Falls; Roger (Barb) Nysse of rural Plymouth and Merlin (Jill) Nysse of Rochester, Minn.; one daughter, Margaret (Ross) Bub of Plymouth; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Schnuell of Chilton and one brother-in-law, Albert Nysse of rural Sheboygan Falls. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wilbur Schnuell; brothers-inlaw: Matthew, Theodore, Lawrence, Edward and Louis Nysse, John Van Sluys, Leroy Wessel and John Van Ess and Jacob Van Treeck; sisters-in-law: Pearl Nysse, Lucille Nysse, Elsie Van Sluys, Dorothy Wessel, Angeline Van Treeck, Elnora Nysse, Martha Van Ess, Rosie Roehrborn and Marie Nysse; and one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Nysse.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth. The Rev. Frederick Jabs and the Rev. Nathan Meador will co-officiate. Burial will be in Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the CHURCH on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Elvira’s name for St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Waldo.
