The loss was the fourth straight for the Tigers – all by one goal and the second in a row in overtime. Howards dropped to 6-5 in the CLC (11-11 overall).

The Flying Dutchmen, who shared the CLC title with the Tigers last year, improved their second-place league record to 7-2-1 (14-6-1 overall). Sheboygan Christian/Lutheran led the CLC at 10-0 through Thursday’s action.

“Our guys really battled tonight, but came up short. I was proud of our senior leadership and hope to see Oostburg again as we enter the state [postseason playoffs] tournament.

“Hats off to [head] coach [Steve] Herzog’s crew who played a great game.”

Senior midfielder Jake Swihart had the assist on the winning goal.

The Flying Dutchmen led 15-3 in shots on goal. The Tigers had one shot hit the crossbar and another deflected off a post in the first half.

Tiger goalkeeper C.J. Berg made 14 saves. Dutchman goalie Mike Duenk had three saves.

“We are two evenly matched teams and when you have that you get a great game. That’s what this was, a great game,” said Oostburg head coach Steve Herzog.

“Both teams had opportunities to score and both came up with some big stops.

“I was proud to see the entire Howards team walk all the way across the field to respectfully shake the hand of the player who was on the ground cramping up and had just scored the gamewinning goal and also my hand,” Herzog said.
