NH/EL-G blanks Kiel in regional debut

NEW HOLSTEIN – The New Holstein/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Huskies rolled past the Kiel Raiders, 4-0, in a Division 3 boys regional soccer first-round game here Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 2-seeded Huskies, 14- 7-2, advance to the finals Thursday, Oct. 17 at home versus No. 3-seeded Luxemburg-Casco at 4 p.m.

Senior midfielder Mike Pasineau led the Huskies’ attack with two goals. Freshman midfielder Jacob Starnitcky, an Elkhart student, and junior forward Joe Baldwin scored one goal each.

Baldwin, Zach Petrie and Josue Valenzuela had one assist each.

New Holstein/Elkhart held an impressive 18-1 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephen Clemens, an Elkhart student, made one save for the Huskies.

“Kiel played us very tough and worked very hard down to the end. They would not let us pull away,” said Husky head coach Nate Laabs.

“Eventually, we were able to put the game away but they made it tough on us.”


The Huskies ended their regular season with a 2-2 tie against host Sheboygan Falls Thursday afternoon. The match was called at 4:13 in the second overtime period due to darkness.

The tie cost the Falcons’ the outright Eastern Wisconsin Conference title as they finished tied for first with Plymouth at 10-1-1. The Huskies took third at 8-3-1.

Pasineau and Valenzuela kicked the Huskies’ goals. The Falcons had goals from Jimmy Jens and Michael Winkler.

“I am very proud of the heart that we showed tonight. We should be very proud of the way we competed tonight,” said Laabs.

Laabs commended his defense, especially Starnitcky who made his first start.
