Howards was led by freshman Ashley Reinemann who earned fourth with a time of 16 minutes, 5 seconds on the 2.5-mile course. The Tigers scored 61 points. Cedar Grove-Belgium captured its third straight CLC title as the Rockets totaled 33 – placing their first five runners in the top-11 overall.

The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters finished sixth in the girls meet with 167 points.

Reinemann and Tiger teammate Emily Eschen, who took ninth, received All-CLC honors. The top-10 finishers in the boys and girls races earn all-conference recognition. Senior Adam Daane of Oostburg captured first in the boys event with a 17:21 effort. Lutheran won the boys championship with 39 points, followed by Oostburg at 46. Howards was fourth with 105 and the Resorters took sixth with 141.

Junior Jordan Kissinger was the Elkhart boys’ top finisher with 17th in 19:27. The Resorter girls were led by freshman Jessica Mehre who took 20th in 18:40.

“Simply awesome. I can’t put it any other way,” said Tiger head coach Gary Kalk about his teams’ performances.

“While the girls team may have come up short in their title aspirations, they gave it everything they had. As a team [boys and girls program], we talked about finishing the race drained of energy, and we did. I’m so proud of each and every one of my athletes.

“Having three all-conference athletes is a great statement for our program. Now we’ll look to make an even bigger statement on Saturday by sending some kids to state,” Kalk said.

Howards and Elkhart will compete in the Division 3 sectional meet Saturday at Lutheran, starting at 11 a.m., which determines state qualifiers.

Resorter head coach Christi Lueck-Sadiq pointed out that senior Justin Miller had his careerbest time by over 1:16 for the boys squad and that senior Kelly Baker, a foreign-exchange student from Australia, ran a personal-best time.
