Cora L. Konen, age 89, of Plymouth, passed away Monday evening, Oct. 21, 2013, at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.

She was born Jan. 12, 1924 in Plymouth, Wis., a daughter of the late Carl and Hattie Hurling Bergin. She attended grade schools in the town of Greenbush and Plymouth.

On Oct. 29, 1947, she married David B. Konen at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. The couple lived in Plymouth for a short time following their marriage, moving to Barton in 1951; living there for 50 years until returning to Plymouth in 2001.

Cora worked at Borden’s Cheese Co. in Plymouth, Otten’s Grocery Store in Barton for 32 years then at Tomlinson Co. in West Bend for six years.

Her husband, David, preceded her in death Sept. 30, 2006.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth.

Cora loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and playing cards.

She is survived by seven children: James (Kathy) Konen of Casper, Wyo.; Patricia Konen of Plymouth; Beverly Kelling of Plymouth; Peter (Cherie) Konen of Plymouth; John Konen of Plymouth; Kay (Gary) Nothem of Waldo and Karen Stark of Plymouth; 10 grandchildren: Renee (Paul) Bong of Lomira, David (Denise) Kelling of Random Lake, Valerie Kelling of Sheboygan, Craig (Julie) Konen of Campbellsport, Ben (Amy) Konen of Richfield, James (Hope) Konen of Sheboygan, Paul Konen (special friend, Heather) of Sheboygan, Paul Stark of Plymouth, Cory (Crystal) Stark of Glenbeulah and Nicole Stark (special friend, Andrew) of Plymouth; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl (Marilyn) Bergin of Plymouth; and two sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Schneider of Sheboygan and Mickey Bergin of Suring, Wis. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends.

Cora was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eva and Verna; four brothers: Carly, Henry, Eddie and Clarence Bergin; and one son-in-law, Arthur Kelling.

Memorial services were held Thursday evening, Oct. 24, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Father Dan Volkert, pastor of the church, officiated. Cremation had taken place and inurnment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Bend.

A memorial fund is being established in Cora’s name for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Sharon S. Richardson Hospice.
