Oostburg’s state hopes end

ELKHORN– The Oostburg Lady Dutch’s bid for a third straight Division 3 girls volleyball state championship was denied by Racine St. Catherine’s in the sectional finals here Saturday night as the Angels earned a sweep, 25-15, 25-18, 25-22.

Oostburg, ranked No. 1 in D-3, ended an outstanding season with a 43-4 record. The Angels avenged a loss to the Lady Dutch in last year’s sectional finals.

“St. Catherine’s is a very good team that played an outstanding match. They had us fighting from behind all night and they did a really good job of keeping constant pressure on us in many ways,” said Oostburg head coach Scott Greupink.

Keri Hartmann led Oostburg in kills with nine and Jo-Leigh VerVelde had eight. VerVelde had a team-high 14 assists. Maranda Huibregtse led in digs with 15.
