SCORE healthcare seminar Nov. 13

Sheboygan’s Mead Public Library will host a free presentation on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) in conjunction with SCORE Southeast Wisconsin and the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday evening, November 13. The two-hour presentation will be held in the Rocca Room of the Mead Library at 710 N. 8th St.

Designed to help small businesses understand the new federal law, the event includes presentation s by Mike Fazio of the Wisconsin district of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Daren Allen, vice president of Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative, insurance agent Tim Lorenz, Jose L. Araujo, program director at Partners for Community Development and will be moderated by SCORE certified mentor Richard Cramer.

According to David Maaske, SCORE SE Wisconsin Chapter chairman, the seminar is tailored for businesses with 50 or fewer employees and will include latest updates from federal agencies, e-tips, templates, links and calculation models. There will be a question and answer session to address specific concerns at the end of the formal presentations.

The event is free, but because of limited space, reservations are required. SCORE’s mission is to help emerging and existing businesses succeed. It is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and to the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE (formerly Service Corps of Retired Executives) is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and partners with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and several chambers of commerce and other business and community organizations.

The southeast Wisconsin chapter was started in 1965, and now consists of 60 mentors with varied executive and entrepreneurial backgrounds, providing free business counseling to prospective and current business owners. It serves the ten county area of southeast Wisconsin – Dodge, Jefferson, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha. The chapter is headquartered at 310 West Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee.

Founded in 1964, SCORE is headquartered in Herndon, VA and Washington, DC and has 370 chapters throughout the United States and its territories, with 14,000 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business mentors.
