Panthers’ Heginbottom earns top EWC honor

Heginbottom shares the honor with senior forward Jimmy Jens of Sheboygan Falls. Heginbottom and Jens were were named to the All-EWC first team for the second straight season. The other first-team repeater is PHS senior defender Eric Majerus.

The PHS Panthers’ other firstteam players are senior midfielders Tom Theisen and Luke Hojnacki. The Panthers’ other all-league picks include senior forward Cooper Ebbott and junior goalkeeper Drew Schweiger on the second team and junior defender Cameron Hauser, honorable mention.

PHS, which shared the EWC title with Falls at 10-1-1, has a leaguehigh four first-team selections.

Heginbottom scored 14 goals and had 12 assists in EWC play.

“He’s a smart player, very fast, has a great shot, is quick and a smart passer,” said Panther head coach Rommy Herrera.

“Jack is a great all-around soccer player who can play any position on the field. He’s the most skilled overall player on our team and the conference.”

Majerus tallied three goals and anchored the Panther’ defense which surrendered only three goals in 12 EWC matches. He was named the Panthers’ Most Valuable Player for the second straight year.

“Eric is a fast and tough player, had great leadership on and off the field, and he started in every game and played until the game was won. As a defender, he was an offensive threat,” Herrera noted.

“Tom is quick and skillful, has a great shot, and is a good passer. A lot of our goals resulted from one of his beautiful passes,” said the coach.

Hojnacki had five goals and six assists during the EWC season.

“He’s a very fast player with a powerful shot. His dribbling allowed us this year to create many opportunities to score,” said Herrera.

“Luke was very coachable and always positive, as well as always encouraging other players. He played every game and every minute [in league play].”

“He pressured opponents’ defenses by challenging for possession and battling in the box. Our offense was often strongest when he was on the field,” observed Herrera.

Schweiger allowed only three goals in 12 league matches.

“He shows good communication on and off the field with players and referees. He’s vocal directing our team and communicating with our defense. He aggressively challenges balls, makes confident saves and takes control of the box,” Herrera pointed out.

Hauser contributed two conferfence goals.

“He was always on time and tough. He is never afraid to carry the ball up and pass it or even try to score. He started in every game and played every second [in league action],” Hererra said.

Clemens surrendered only 27 goals in 25 games and made 105 saves for the overall season.
