Neils, Jankowski lead Panthers to first win

PLYMOUTH – Senior guard Kollin Neils and senior forward Tom Jankowski combined for 40 points to ignite the Plymouth Panthers to a 54-47 nonconference boys basketball win over Menomonee Falls Tuesday night at the PHS gym.

Neils pumped in 22 points and Jankowski netted 18. Neils erupted for 12 points in the fourth quarter to spark the Panthers who evened their record at 1-1. It was the Indians’ season debut.

The Panthers took a 12-7 lead after one quarter and led the rest of the way.

“We played with more energy and more aggressiveness than in the first game,” said Panther head coach Jason Duff.

“We did a good job of communicating on the court because we were changing defenses. We rebounded well early and late in the game.”

Neils had a strong overall game as he also led PHS in assists with five and steals, three. He shot an excellent 9-for-15 (60 percent) from the field.

Jankowski had a double-double as he grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds. He made 8 of 11 at the free-throw line. Collin Denzin contributed three assists. Eric Nygaard had seven boards.

“Kollin was very aggressive going to the basket. He is a very good leader for us,” Duff said.

“Tom played with more aggressiveness. Eric was very tough, defensively.”

PHS outscored the Indians by nine at the foul line.

After rallying in the third quarter to take the lead, the Panthers were unable to stay ahead as they lost, 68-63, in the freshman game. PHS, 1-1, trailed by 14 in the first half.

Jake Steinhardt led PHS in scoring with 23 points and Alex Shutter tallied 17. The Panthers sank 13 three-point shots.
