Brinkman sparks Tigers to CLC win

CEDAR GROVE – Junior guard Ethan Brinkman exploded for 26 points to power the Howards Grove boys basketball team to a 62-48 victory over host Cedar Grove-Belgium Tuesday night.

The game was the Central Lakeshore Conference debut for both teams. The Tigers improved to 2-0 overall and the Rockets dropped to 0-2.

The Tigers broke the contest open with a 34-21 scoring edge in the second half after leading only 28-27 at halftime. ____

Brinkman was 4-for-5 from three-point range. Senior guard Austin Edge had 11 points and a team-high four assists for Howards. Junior forward Trent Beninghaus led in rebounds with five and steals, four.

“Overall, the kids played extremely hard. We have a lot to work on but I know we’re heading in the right direction,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“Cedar Grove is pretty big and they were able to hurt us on the boards. Our defense did a pretty good job turning them over but we also gave up a lot of easy ones.

“I’m proud of the way our guys competed from start to finish,” said Worth.

RJ Lemmermann paced the Rockets’ offense with 15 points.
