Tigers push record to 3-0

HOWARDS GROVE – The Howards Grove Tigers ran their boys basketball record to 3-0 with a 47-44 nonconference win over visiting Algoma Saturday night.

Senior guard Austin Edge scored a season-high 20 points and junior guard Ethan Brinkman chipped in with 17 to lead the Tigers’ attack. Edge also had a team-high four assists and three steals.

“Our guys competed. It wasn’t pretty but the guys stayed the course and we were able to get it done,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“I’m very proud of the guys’ perseverance from start to finish and I’m hoping that’s the attitude we’ll be able to hang our hat on all season.”

The Tigers took a 29-23 halftime lead and then held off Algoma in the second half. The Wolves dropped to 2-2.

Senior forward CJ Berg paced Howards in rebounds with eight.

Howards overcame a poor shooting night at foul line as it made only 10 of 26.
