Brinkman nets 26 as HG stays perfect

HOWARDS GROVE – Junior guard Ethan Brinkman poured in 26 points to power the unbeaten Howards Grove Tigers to a 71-54 boys basketball triumph over visiting Kohler Tuesday night.

The Tigers raised their Central Lakeshore Conference record to 2-0 (4-0 overall). The Blue Bombers fell to 1-2 in the CLC (1-2 overall).

Howards raced to a 22- 13 lead after one quarter and were in control the rest of the game.

Brinkman shot an excellent 62 percent (8 of 13) from the field overall and was 3-for-4 from three-point range. Senior guard Austin Edge contributed 17 points for the winners.

Luke Stanczyk pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds for the Tigers and shared the team lead in assists with Brinkman at three each.

“Our guys really competed from start to finish. I felt we did a pretty good job of handling the different defenses that Kohler threw at us,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“We got in some foul trouble early and we had a number of guys off the bench step up for us. We have a lot to work on but I believe we’re heading in the right direction.”

Brett Mueller led the Bombers in scoring with 19.
