Meals On Wheels receives $25,000 from WPS

The Wisconsin Public Service Foundation recently awarded Fresh Meals On Wheels of Sheboygan County, Inc. a $25,000 grant. This generous donation will provide funding for the Meals On Wheels’ Raised Beds Garden project.

Raised beds will be built on a portion of WPS property to create a garden that will help feed the most vulnerable members of our community. The garden will generate large quantities of produce used to create high quality, nutritious meals for our clients. Additional varieties of produce will increase our overall capacity to ensure we can continue to feed our elderly, disabled, and home-bound neighbors.

Wisconsin Public Service Corporation employees and many community volunteers will be involved in the construction; maintenance and harvesting of produce and flowers grown on the WPS site which will be used in the preparation and presentation of client meals.

Meals On Wheels’ no waste process enables them to share any excess fruits or vegetables with local food pantries. Additional produce will ensure Meals On Wheels can continue to serve more than 300 residents throughout Sheboygan County every day.

Recently, WPS provided free weatherization kits to help Meals On Wheels clients stay warm in their homes this winter.
