Hot-shooting Crusaders bury Tigers

Jacob Jurss (3) helps defend. — Review photo by Greg Ceilley HOWARDS GROVE – Sheboygan Lutheran blew out to a 29- 10 lead after one quarter and then cruised to an 87-67 drubbing of Howards Grove in a Central Lakeshore Conference boys basketball game here Thursday night.

The Crusaders, who upped their CLC-leading record to 3-0 (5-0 overall), shot a blistering 61 percent from the field overall and scorched the nets from two-point range at 79 percent (30-for-38). The Tigers dropped to 2-2 in the league (4-2 overall).

Tyler Zastrow and Jacob Jurss combined for 16 points – nine by Hess and seven from Jurss – to spark the Crusaders’ first-quarter explosion. Jurss buried a threepointer with 15 seconds left in the period which made it 29-10.

Four Crusaders hit double figures. Jurss, who had 16 first-half points, also dished out a team-high 10 assists.

Junior guard Ethan Brinkman led the Tigers in scoring with 16. Austin Edge and Luke Stanczyk added 11 each. Edge also contributed a team-best six assists.

“Our kids played hard but it seemed we were one step behind every time. Lutheran was attacking,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“We’re young and inexperienced and I really think that showed tonight. I credit Lutheran though. They’re a very good team and made a lot of shots tonight.

“They moved the ball around really well and played as a team,” said Worth.

“I hope it was a great learning experience for my guys. We can only use it to get better.”

The Tigers committed 21 turnovers and Lutheran had only 10.
