District, Foundation seek alumni connections

The Plymouth School District and the Plymouth Education Foundation are looking to build stronger connections with one of their most valuable resources: alumni

The district is developing plans to reach out to alumni increasingly in the coming years, said Dr. Carrie Dassow, district superintendent. “What do they see in their lives that the Plymouth School District has done to help them, and what do they want the students going through now to have?”

The PHS Alumni Association that had been in existence for many years disbanded over the summer, but its online community will continue through the efforts of the foundation.

“Alumni are part of the foundation’s heritage and forever an important part of the legacy of the Plymouth School District,” said Anne Troka, foundation executive director.

Dassow hopes alumni will continue coming back for Homecoming, and will enjoy celebrating upcoming building anniversaries, including the 50th anniversary of Plymouth High School in 2016-17.

She also looks forward to the Alumni Hall of Fame induction each year, and hopes more alumni share their success stories.

The foundation, which is experiencing its own reinvigoration, is making a concerted effort to reach out to those who have been part of building and sustaining the district – its staff and retired staff – as well as with those alumni who have attended its schools.

“I am hoping to connect with alumni to learn about their stories of what made their Plymouth education memorable, impacted their future, and how they are making a difference in the lives of others,” Mrs. Troka said. “I would like to share their stories with current students so in the future, when current students go out into the world, they remember the value of their Plymouth education and give back to support current and future students just as alumni did for them.”

The foundation is currently overseeing an update of the PHS Alumni Directory and Online Community, which happens every five years. Alumni are encouraged to contact Alumni Research at (855) 277-5546, Ext. 0 to ensure their information is current.

The district and foundation also will:

· Keep alumni informed about events of interest such as celebrations, renovations, new academic programs, the PHS Alumni Hall of Fame, reunions, etc.

· Share news with alumni on staff retirements, awards, recognition, honorary, and/ or memorial fund opportunities.

· Provide support for those planning alumni reunions.

· Develop an alumni Facebook page.

Troka hopes the generosity PHS alumni have shown the foundation since it was founded 25 years ago continues as it works to enhance the educational experience for students enrolled in the Plymouth School District.
