Tigers’ attack fizzles in CLC defeat

HOWARDS GROVE – The Howards Grove Tigers’ recent offensive struggles continued Thursday night in a 33-29 loss to visiting Sheboygan Christian in a Central Lakeshore Conference girls basketball matchup.

The Tigers dropped to 1-2 in the CLC (1-4 overall) and lost their third in a row. The Eagles upped their CLC-leading record to 5-0 (7-1 overall).

Howards shot a frigid 27 percent (12 of 45) from the field and was only 3 of 11 at the foul line. The Eagles also struggled from the field at 22 percent (11 of 50) but made six more free throws (9 of 16) than the Tigers.

“Christian showed a ton of heart. They got after it and are well-deserving of their success,” said Tiger head coach Heidi Georgeff.

“We gave up way too many offensive rebounds – not a winning recipe.”

The Eagles dominated the boards as they held a 43-27 rebounding advantage. Carissa Wisse ripped down a team-high 15 rebounds for Christian.

Senior forward Taylor Beninghaus had a double-double for the Tigers with a team-high 10 points and 10 boards. Brittany Schaller had seven rebounds. Schaller and Olivia Stauss led in assists with three apiece.

Hannah Modahl paced the Eagles in scoring with 14.
