Robbery attempt nets felony charge

TRAVIS A. DIELS JR. TRAVIS A. DIELS JR. A 25-year-old Plymouth man faces a felony armed robbery charge in Sheboygan County Circuit Court after he allegedly attempted to rob the West Side Pantry store Dec. 29.

Travis A. Diels Jr., 108 Beth Circle Apt. B, will have a preliminary hearing before Branch 3 Judge Angela Sutkiewicz Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 3 p.m. on the charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and/or $100,000.

According to the criminal complaint filed by the Sheboygan County District Attorney’s office, Diels allegedly entered the gas station/ convenience store shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, with a tan shirt wrapped around his face.

After several minutes in the store, Diels went behind the counter and demanded that the attendant open the till, according to the complaint.

During this time, the attendant pressed the panic alarm under the counter, at which point the alleged robber fled the store.

Plymouth Police responded and discovered the discarded tan shirt outside the store.

Acting on a tip, police the next day executed a search warrant for the defendant’s address, where they discovered other clothing worn by the alleged robber as identified by surveillance video of the incident.
