Tigers hold off Denmark to earn victory

DENMARK – Howards Grove outscored Denmark 28-13 in the first half to pave the way for a 47- 42 boys basketball win here Friday night.

The nonconference win upped the Tigers’ record to 6-3. The Vikings fell to 1-7.

“I thought it was a great team effort from start to finish,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“We let them back in the game late with a couple of turnovers and they were able to capitalize by hitting a couple threes. I thought our guys stayed the course, kept fighting and finished nicely.”

The Vikings rallied in the second half, outscoring Howards 29-19.

Junior guard Ethan Brinkman led Howards’ scoring with 15 points and assists, four. Senior guard Austin Edge contributed 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

“We had some really nice contributions from Jonah Gerber and Zach Fritz off the bench,” said Worth.

In their previous game Dec. 28, the Tigers lost at St. Mary’s Springs (Fond du Lac), 60-50, in nonconference play.

Brinkman sparked the Tigers’ attack with a game-high 22 points and Alex Strege added 10. Cory Nies paced the Ledgers with 15 points.

The Ledgers outscored Howards 16-9 in the third quarter to build a 46-37 lead.
