Tigers breeze to CLC victory

HOWARDS GROVE – Excellent defense and balanced scoring ignited the Howards Grove Tigers as they cruised to a 46-29 win over visiting Cedar Grove-Belgium in girls basketball play Friday night.

The Tigers raised their Central Lakeshore Conference record to 3-3 (4-6 overall). The Rockets fell to 2-3 in the CLC (5-6 overall).

Howards mounted a 17-4 lead after one quarter. Senior guardforward Courtney Milz and junior guard Morgan Edge sparked the Tigers’ attack in the period with eight and five points, respectively. The Tigers led 27-12 at halftime.

Edge led Howards in scoring with 13 and Milz tallied 12. The Tigers had four players with at least seven points.

Brittany Schaller paced the Tigers in rebounds with seven and assists, three. Schaller, Edge, Erin Valenstein and Sarah Lillesand shared the lead in steals with two each.

“We played excellent team defense for the first time this season. Milz did a great job on Ashli Von Heimburg – limiting her to three points on free throws,” said Tiger head coach Heidi Georgeff.

“We had balanced scoring for the first time as well. It was a great team win.”

Senior forward Lydia Legler led the Rockets in scoring with 14 points.
