Howards Grove finds new assessor is unreachable

HOWARDS GROVE — The village’s new assessor seems to be unreachable.

Village residents have complained to the Village Board that the new assessor for assessment services, Tyler Technology, hasn’t returned their phone calls.

The village hired Tyler Technology in October for a three-year contract to do the village assessment services.

Village residents have contacted the village clerk’s office about Tyler, along with some realtors who have needed their assistance. The Sheboygan County treasurer’s office also requested their services without a response.

At Tuesday’s Village Board meeting, Village President James Scheiber appointed trustee Jeff Plass to call Tyler and look into the matter. Plass felt that maybe the representative was unavailable and would try to contact the main office.

Two administrative staff members were given gift certificates as a stipend and appreciation from the Village Board for their extra work during the holiday period with the transition of finding a new village clerk/ treasurer.

Board members approved the stipend with appreciation.

“We were able to keep the village hall open and up to speed,” said Scheiber.

Plass said that one of the board members suggested the idea at the last meeting and the Finance Committee gave recommendation.

The Finance Committee discussed a surplus of money in the budget, however they must wait until all of the budgets have been audited.

Plass stated that the village would like to consider buying a new projection screen for village meetings if the money is available.
