Oostburg buried nine threepoint goals out of 21 attempts for 43 percent. The Dutchmen were shooting only 18 percent from three-point range on the season coming in, according to Resorter head coach Jim Brown.

The Dutchmen, the defending CLC champions, upped their league record to 6-3 (9-4 overall). Elkhart fell to 2-7 in the CLC (3-9 overall).

Seniors Parker Gabrielse and Lukas Meerdink led Oostburg’s three-point onslaught with three each – all in the first half when the home team sank seven treys to spark a 43-18 halftime lead. Gabrielse finished with a team-high 16 points and Meerdink totaled 13.

Oostburg grabbed a quick 6-0 lead at the outset on two threepoint goals by Meerdink. The Resorters answered with backto back threes from Antonio Bett which tied the game, 6-6.

The Dutchmen answered with a 16-2 run to close out to first quarter and build a 22-8 lead. Meerdink hit a three-ball at the buzzer to climax the spurt.

Turnovers plagued the Resorters in the first half as they struggled with Oostburg’s trapping defense. The Dutchmen came up with several steals which were turned into fast-break points. Oostburg had an impressive 14 steals in the contest and forced 20 Elkhart turnovers.

“This was one of our most complete games. We shot the ball well early and sustained that throughout the game. In addition, I thought our team defense was very solid,” said Oostburg head coach Kevin Bruggink.

“It takes five players working together to contain Bett and the patience and discipline of Elkhart Lake in the half-court. I thought we really controlled gaps and our defense created some offensive opportunities.”

Bett scored a team-high 25 points but was held to only two in the second quarter when Oostburg blew the game open.

“Oostburg played great. They made nine three-pointers and their defense was fantastic,” said Brown.

“We did not play to our ability and were a step slow in comparison to them. Our guys always play hard but this was not a great performance by us.”

Bett led Elkhart in rebounds with eight.

Oostburg had very balanced scoring with four players in double figures. Gabrielse led in rebounds with five and shared the lead in steals with Andrew Telschow and Tyler Chaloupka at three each. Telschow had a team-high three assists.

Oostburg cruised to a 61-33 win in the JV contest. Owen Kalbacken led Elkhart in scoring with 12 points and Max Kossman tallied seven. Several unforced turnovers hurt the Resorters.
