Tigers’ defense ignites CLC win

KOHLER – Howards Grove allowed only 14 second-half points to key a 57-43 boys basketball win over host Kohler Tuesday night.

The Tigers outscored the Blue Bombers 22-14 in the second half to pull away after leading 35-29 at halftime. Howards upped its Central Lakeshore Conference record to 5-4 (8-6 overall). Kohler fell to 1-7 in the CLC (3-7 overall).

Howards’ offense was led by Austin Edge, Ethan Brinkman and Andrew Reinemann with 13 points each. Trent Beninghaus grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, including five offensive. Edge led in assists with five.

“Overall, I thought we played a pretty good game. Kohler came out hot in the first quarter but I think we did a good job matching that,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“They came out playing a 2-3 zone trying to slow us down but I felt our guys did a great job moving the ball around and getting good shots.

“We started the second half with a couple of really nice pos- sessions in which we got highpercentage shots. We were able to buckle down defensively and get some key stops when we needed them down the stretch,” Worth said.
