SFSD sets 4-K open house

The Sheboygan Falls School District will hold its seventh annual informational open house for the community 4-year-old kindergarten program on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 2-6 p.m. in the Sheboygan Falls Middle School 4-K wing.

The 4-year-old kindergarten program is currently in the middle of its sixth year of operation and is taught by qualified, DPI licensed teachers.

The purpose of the open house is to answer any questions regarding the Sheboygan Falls Community 4 Kids program.

“The open house is a great opportunity for parents to visit our classrooms and learn more about 4K,” 4-year-old kindergarten teacher Cassie Adelman said. “My own son is in 4K this school year, and I think we’re both more confi- dent about his going to kindergarten next year.”

During the open house, potential parents will be able to pick up pre-registration materials, tour the 4K wing at the middle school, and meet with 4K teachers to ask any questions they may have about the 4K program.

The YMCA 4K classroom will also be open for parents to tour and meet with the 4K teacher.

The Sheboygan Falls Community based 4-year-old kindergarten program is dedicated to providing high quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences to all 4-year-old children.

In partnership with the YMCA and Sheboygan County Head Start, the program strives to prepare all students with a strong foundation for their educational journey.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, 93 percent of Wisconsin’s public school districts that have an elementary program now offer 4K.

“Communities across Wisconsin know that children who have rich early learning experiences through quality 4K programs are better prepared to thrive in school,” said State Superintendent Tony Evers. “Research on 4K shows that students enrolled in quality early education programs perform better in school and are less likely to need special education services, have lower retention rates and are more likely to graduate from high school, gain employment and avoid incarceration.”

Parents can enter the the 4-K wing directly from the Guilford Street entrance of the middle school building.

Those unable to attend the open house, are asked to stop in the elementary school office from Jan. 30 and Feb. 14, to pick up registration forms and program packets.

Completed registration forms should be returned to the elementary school office during the preregistration dates of Feb. 17-20.

Pre-registration for students in Sheboygan Falls School District, who will be entering 4-year-old kindergarten in fall 2014 will be held Feb. 17-20 at the Sheboygan Falls Elementary School office, located at 1 Alfred Miley Ave. in Sheboygan Falls.

The office hours are 9 a.m-3 p.m. daily. The office will also be open the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 3-7 p.m.

Children will need to be 4-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2014 in order to enter 4-year-old kindergarten this fall.
