The Tigers raised their Central Lakeshore Conference record to 4-3 (5-6 overall). The Resorters dropped to 3-4 in the CLC (4-6 overall).

Howards’ swarming, trapping defense wreaked havoc on Elkhart’s offense. The Resorters had few open looks and a minimal number of second-shot opportunities.

“We played solid consistent team defense all game. We had very few breakdowns defensively and didn’t give them many second chance rebounds,” said Tiger head coach Heidi Georgeff.

“Overall, this was one of our best games so far. We were balanced and had a lot of kids contribute.”

Senior guard/forward Courtney Milz led Howards’ attack with 13 points and Morgan Edge hit 10. The Tigers had four players with at least eight points.

Sophomore forward Rachael Flora paced Elkhart scorers with nine.

The Tigers opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run to build a 24-8 lead and had a tight grip on the game the rest of the night. Junior guard Morgan Edge sparked the spurt with five points on a three-point goal and a fast-break layup.

Emily Holzmann sank a perimeter shot at the halftime buzzer to pull Elkhart within 26-14.

The Tigers blew the game open with a 9-0 tear in the third period which gave them a 41-21 lead. Edge made a three-point play off a fast-break layup to key the stretch.

“We struggled in all three phases of the game: offense, defense and coaching,” said Resorter head coach Donny Kulow.

“We just could not find a rhythm on offense, and on defense we were just a step slow all night. Howards played great defense and took away our inside game. They had good help-defense. They shot the ball well.”

Taylor Beninghaus led Howards in rebounds with eight. Brittany Schaller and Edge had a team-high four assists each. Edge also led in steals with two.

“Taylor Beninghaus did a nice job defensively against Flora. Flora is tough to defend because she is so physical,” Georgeff said.

Flora paced Elkhart in rebounds with six. Holzmann had a teamhigh three assists and shared the lead in steals with Ashley Pfeifer and Kelly Theel at two apiece.

Feldmann led the Resorters in blocked shots with three.
