The meet was the Panthers’ final dual of the regular season as they finished 2-5 in the EWC and 5-12 overall. It was Plymouth’s first dual win over the Cougars since they joined the EWC back in the mid-1990s.

PHS led 36-18 through nine matches before the Cougars battled back – scoring three pins to pull within 36-34 going into the final match at 120 pounds. Junior Keagan Gustin clinched the victory for PHS with a come-from-behind 6-4 decision over Bennett Marchant.

Gustin trailed 4-0 going into the third period where he put Marchant on his back twice to pull out a 6-4 win.

“We were excited to beat ___________ them for the first time in a dual since they came into our conference. It was a really nice cap to the end of the [regular] season,” said Panther head coach Lucas Lechnir.

PHS, which was missing three starters due to injuries and medical issues, received pins from Trevor Miske at 145, Austin Wiese at 152 and Skyler Simenz, 160. Simenz, who trailed in his match at one point, was wrestling up a weight to fill in for the absent Izack Ohman.

PHS was helped by three forfeit wins which gave them 18 points.

The Panthers will compete in the EWC Tournament Saturday at Two Rivers, starting at 9 a.m.
