Prescott to run for 59th Assembly seat

CHILTON – Ralph Prescott has announced he will run for the 59th Assembly District seat as a Republican after Rep. Dan LeMahieu’s recent announcement that he will retire after this term.

“(Dan) LeMahieu is a good friend who over the last 12 years has been an outstanding leader in the legislature, and I thank Dan for his service,” Prescott said in a press release announcing his candidacy.

As a former executive and shareholder of Prescott’s Supermarkets, Prescott has been part of a customer-service driven firm responsible for over 1,400 jobs throughout Washington, Fond du Lac, and Winnebago counties. He knows what it takes to create jobs and he intends to take his private sector experience to Madison.

“Over the course of the last three years Gov. (Scott) Walker and Republican legislators have laid the foundation for job creation, and now I intend to continue to build on that sturdy foundation and make job creation my top priority,” Prescott stated.

Following his career as a local grocer, Prescott was elected to the Calumet County Board of Supervisors, where he is currently serving his sixth year. As a member of the county’s Administrative Committee, Prescott worked with board members and county staff to present common-sense, fiscally conservative budgets and now Calumet County is the 12th-lowest spending county per capita in the entire state. “Not only have we been successful in keeping spending in check, but Calumet County continues to be one only of 10 counties in Wisconsin without a .5 percent sales tax, a fact that I am proud of,” Prescott said.

Along with his business and local government experience, Prescott has demonstrated leadership in many communities throughout east central Wisconsin which includes: Washington County United Way, West Bend Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class, Stockbridge Lions, Evergreen Retirement Community, and Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

“Most of all, I am running for the assembly because I love Wisconsin and I want my children to be able to live, work, and have the same opportunities that I’ve been grateful to have,” Prescott concluded.

A resident of the town of Brothertown, Prescott lives with his wife Bernadette and their two children Abby, and Eddy.

The 59th Assembly District includes the towns of Russell, Greenbush (excluding the village of Glenbeulah), Mitchell, Lyndon and Scott in Sheboygan County.
