Mary Jean Whalen (nee Buss), age 77, of Milwaukee, passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 31, 2014, at Vita Hospice in West Allis.

She was born April 9, 1936, in the town of Mitchell, Wis., a daughter of the late William and Odelia (Pitt) Buss. She graduated from Elkhart Lake High School in 1954.

On April 7, 1972, she married James Whalen in Waukegan, Ill. The couple have resided in the Milwaukee area since their marriage.

She worked at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee until her retirement.

She enjoyed flowers and her Schnauzer dogs, especially Missy, her Florida vacations and trips to Vegas.

Survivors include her loving husband of 41 years, James of Milwaukee; one brother, Roland (Linda) Buss of Sheboygan Falls; special nieces and nephew: Debra Kay (David) Lorenz of Plymouth, Sunday (Dick) Strong of Plymouth and Wally Buss of Plymouth; one brother-in-law, Tom (Claire) Whalen of Oklahoma and one sister in-law, Beverly Buss of Greenbush; and also survived by many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Elmer, Eugene, Robert, James and Walter Buss and one sister, Evelyn Buss.

Following Mary Jean’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. The Rev. Peter Pietsch will officiate. Inurnment will be in Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth from 2 p.m. Saturday until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Mary Jean’s name.
