Resorters cruise with strong second half

ELKHART LAKE – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters outscored St. Lawrence Seminary 32-20 in the second half to key a 61-41 rout in boys basketball play here Monday night.

The nonconference win upped the Resorters’ record to 5-10. It was Elkhart’s first home contest in the last eight games due to a pair of home games being postponed because of the weather. The Hilltoppers fell to 1-13.

Elkhart got off to a strong start as it led 17-10 after one quarter. Junior guard Trevor Taubenheim sparked the Resorters in the period with all seven of his points. John Kuhn added six on two three-pointers.

The Resorters led 29-21 at haltime before blowing the game open in the final half. Elkhart held St. Lawrence to only five points in the third quarter.

Senior forward Antonio Bett led a balanced Resorter offense with 20 points, including 13 in the first half. Jordan Kissinger chipped in with 10 for the game – all in the second half. Elkhart had five players score at least six points.

Bett also had a team-high 12 rebounds as Elkhart dominated the boards with a 43-18 rebounding advantage. Kuhn and AJ Lallensack led in assists with three each.

The Resorters held St. Lawrence to only 27-percent field-goal shooting. The Hilltoppers made eight three-point goals but needed 33 attempts which was only 24-percent accuracy.

“It was a great win for our team. It was nice to have one that was not a nail-biter,” said Resorter head coach Jim Brown.

“I thought everyone played very well and to win two in a row is nice. Jordan Kissinger had 10 [points] off the bench and is back from a broken elbow, and John Kuhn hit three 3-point baskets for us.”

Elkhart shot well from the floor overall at 53 percent and was an outstanding 6-for-10 (60 percent) from three-point range.

Alex Rivera paced the Hilltoppers’ scoring with 18, including 12 in the opening half, and sank four three-balls.
