Working on the railroad

The reconstruction of the rail line from Plymouth to Kohler began Wednesday. Crews from Vinton Construction of Manitowoc began with a custom-built skid installed under the rail and pulled along with a Caterpillar to pop up the rail. This frees the rail from all the ties, spikes and ties plates. The goal for now is to remove all the rail while the ties are still frozen in the ground. Later, when the ground thaws, ties and fouled ballast will be dealt with.
