MARIE E. HUSS

Marie E. Huss, age 93, a resident of the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary, and formerly of Plymouth, passed away at the Villa on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014.

She was born Aug. 29, 1920, in New London, Wis., the oldest daughter of the late John and Mae (Carey) Rohan.

She attended a one-room school in rural New London in the town of Lebanon. Marie graduated from Washington High School in 1938 and from Oshkosh State College in 1963 in elementary education.

Marie was married to Gilbert Huss on May 4, 1942, just before he left for World War II in Germany. They resided in Poynette and then Plymouth since 1956 where they operated the Huss Funeral Home. She taught in a one-room school in rural Black Creek, the Catholic School System in Sheboygan Falls and then taught at Elder Grove School in rural St. Cloud and the Campbellsport School System for 22 years.

She helped set up the first library at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Plymouth, helped get the first Fall Festival started, and worked many years at Road America food stand. She spent 25 winters in Mesa, Ariz., where she enjoyed making fleece blankets for children in the area hospitals and cameo quilt neck coolers for the troops in Iraq.

Marie was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth, the Christian Mother’s Society, and the D of I Society of the church.

Survivors include her three sons, Jack (Jane) Huss of Fond du Lac, Jerry (Margaret) Huss of Plymouth and Jeffrey (Barbara) Huss of Huntington Beach, Calif.; her daughter, Debra (Mark) Murphy of Tempe, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Jenny (Dave) Talma, Julie (Don) Thome, Sara (Bill) Morgan, Travis (Lisa) Huss, Nathan (Julie) Huss, Patrick (Lucy) Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Erin Murphy, Amelia Huss and Carey Huss; two step grandsons, Tom Bertron and Barry (Missy) Bertron; eight great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Jane Auer, Ann Petit and Helen Laux, all of New London.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Gilbert, in 1977 and three brothersin law.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 115 Plymouth St. in Plymouth, WI 53073. The Rev. Dennis Van Beek will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Family and friends may call at the church Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Villa Loretto/Villa Rosa to honor the great staff and sisters who made Marie’s last three years most enjoyable.
