Richard Allen Scholten, age 69, of Cleveland, Wis., passed away unexpectedly at his home Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014.

He was born May 27, 1944 in Sheboygan, son of the late Jesse and Florence (TeStroete) Scholten. He attended Green Elementary School in Hingham, Wis., and later attended Oostburg High School.

On March 4, 1965, Richard married Bonnie Van Ess in Lancaster, Mo.

After their marriage, he ran a farm from 1965-78, during which he earned the Outstanding Young Farmer award in 1976.

On July 19, 1980, he married Linda Schwartz in Kiel, Wis.

Richard then began his long career of semi-driving. He worked for JTE Transportation for many years before retiring in September 2013.

He enjoyed deer hunting, raising and showing horses, and spending time with his loving family.

Richard is survived by his wife, Linda; three children: Brian (Sherri) Scholten of Glenbeulah, Barry (Tammy) Scholten of Reedsville and Michelle (David) Molkenthine of Plymouth; seven grandchildren: Fawn Seefeldt, Zac (Danielle) Scholten, Cody Molkenthine, Mikayla Scholten, Leanna Scholten, Hailey Molkenthine and Kyle Wittmus; two great-grandchildren, Alanha Seefeldt and Madalynn Scholten; one stepdaughter, Stephanie (Brian) Wittmus of Newton, Wis.; one sister, Gladys (Kenneth) Ebbers of Oostburg; one brother, David (Patricia) Scholten of Waldo; and one brother-in-law, Richard Schwartz of Newton, Wis. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Richard was preceded in death by one sister, Lenore Schneider; one brother, Arlin “Butch” Scholten; and many in-laws.

Funeral services were held Monday evening, Feb. 17, at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Father Wayne Bittner officiated. Burial took place in the Hingham Cemetery.

A memorial fund is being established in Richard’s name.
