Big second quarter keys Tigers’ win

CEDAR GROVE – Howards Grove outscored Cedar Grove-Belgium 14-1 in the second quarter to key a 45- 30 girls basketball win here Thursday night.

The Tigers, who trailed 11-7 after one quarter, grabbed a 21-12 halftime lead. Howards upped its Central Lakeshore Conference record to 8-5 (9-11 overall). The Rockets fell to 5-7 in the CLC (9-11 overall).

Howards held the Rockets to a frigid 24-percent shooting from the field.

Taylor Beninghaus led a balanced Tiger offense with 12 points and Erin Valenstein hit 10. Beninghaus also had a team-high 10 rebounds, two blocked shots ____________________ and two steals. Nicole Mugan also had two steals.

Brittany Schaller paced Howards in assists with four and Morgan Edge contributed three. Courtney Milz had seven boards.

Ashli Von Heimburg led the Rockets’ scoring with 11. Abby Vrubley had a team-high 10 rebounds.
