School Board votes not to make up closures

The Sheboygan Falls School Board voted not to make up two of three days that were recently cancelled due to cold weather, during a monthly meeting Monday, Feb. 23, in the high school library.

District Administrator Jean Born said the district has cancelled three days due to cold weather this winter, with one of the days scheduled to be made up as a built-in day on Friday, May 23.

However, two days currently remain without scheduled makeup dates. Born noted that the district would not be required by the state to make up the days, as all three schools are currently within the state-mandated contact hours and minutes.

“I would normally be against taking away student-teacher contact hours, but this is a unique situation,” Board member Vicky Bramstedt said. “I think considering all the factors, forgiving those two days is the best decision.

After a discussion, the board decided not to reschedule the two days, citing scheduling difficulties with the available make-up days and the district’s current compliance with student-teacher contact hour requirements.

A full report from the meeting will appear in next week’s Sheboygan Falls News.
