John L. Flood, age 79, of Plymouth, Wis., passed away late Saturday afternoon, March 1, 2014, at the Plymouth Care Center.

John was born June 11, 1934 in Plymouth, a son of the late Gerald and Aurelia Pfrang Flood. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Grade School and graduated from Plymouth High School in1952.

John served in the United States Army from November 1954 to November 1956, serving 21 months in Germany during the Korean War.

On May 4, 1957, he married Colette Unger at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. The couple have resided in Plymouth since their marriage, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007.

John owned and operated George T. Rayne Lumber Co., along with his brothers and father in Plymouth. He worked there all his life, and in June 1995, sold the company to Richardson Lumber Co.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth all of his life, serving as an altar boy and later as an usher in the church. He was a former member of the Holy Name Society in the church.

John enjoyed golfing, having coffee with his morning group, going for walks, spending time in Gulf Shores and taking many trips with his wife. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and his grandchildren adored spending time with him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Colette of Plymouth; five children: Robert (Amy Mross) Flood, Ann (Dave) Miller, David (Lisa Naze) Flood, Daniel (Lynn Kornetzke) Flood and Julie Blanke (Corey Will); 12 grandchildren: Stefanie, Michael and Andrew Flood; Ellis and Armella Miller; Megan and Andrea Flood; McKenna and Ian Flood and Bailey, Olivia and Calie Blanke and their father, Dean; two brothers, Jerry (Donna) Flood of Plymouth and Pat (Chris) Flood of Plymouth; two sisters-in-law, Barbara (Hank) Vandermause of Leesburg, Fla., and Suzanne Zimmermann of Burlington Wash.; and three brothers-in-law: Richard (Kay) Unger of Renton, Wash.; Robert (Betty) Unger of Plymouth and Thomas Unger (special friend, Mary Payne) of Green Bay, Wis.

He was preceded in death by one brother in-law, Tim Zimmerman and his mother and father-in-law, Francis and Armella Unger.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Father Dan Volkert, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth from 3-7 p.m. Friday, March 7, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.

There will be NO VISITATION at CHURCH on Saturday morning, just the services taking place at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in John’s name for St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic.
