Oostburg, North win regional titles

Maranda Huibregste scored 22 points to spark No. 1-seeded Oostburg to a 65-38 rout over No. 5-seeded Columbus in the Division 3 girls regional basketball finals Saturday night at Oostburg.

The Lady Dutch, 18-6, advance to the sectional semifinals Thursday night against No. 2-seeded Waupun (17-7) at West Bend at 7 p.m. Waupun defeated Laconia, 56-52, in overtime in a regional title game Saturday.

Oostburg blew the game open by outscoring the Cardinals 23-7 in the second quarter to build a 36-13 halftime lead. The Lady Dutch buried six three-pointers in the opening half, including two by Shannon Boldt and Kimberly VanStelle.

Sheboygan North earned a D-1 girls regional title with a 45-36 win over visiting Green Bay Southwest Saturday. The No. 1-seeded Golden Raiders, 24-0, will face No. 2-seeded Kimberly, 24-0, in a sectional semifinal Thursday at Green Bay Preble at 7 p.m.

Madison Wolf keyed North’s offense with 18 points.

Sheboygan Christian lost in the D-5 girls regional finals at No. 1-seeded Hilbert, 45-31, Saturday night. The No. 2-seeded Eagles ended their season at 15-7 while the Wolves improved to 18-6.

Hilbert took a 33-20 lead after outscoring Christian 16-4 in the third period. Hannah Modahl paced the Eagles in scoring with 11 points. Erica Gehl ignited Hilbert’s attack with 19.
