HOWARDS GROVE—The village of Howards Grove has passed its 2013 financial audit.

Village Auditor Bryan Grunewald of Schenk SC presented the 2013 financial audit. Grunewald gave highlights of 2013, with the village hiring a new clerk and using new accounting hardware. He said he felt the transition went smooth.

After reviewing the finances of the village, Grunewald said that the general fund appears to be strong and it shows that the village has had a good level of planning.

Grunewald pointed out that the village should identify needs in its capital funds financial report and sewer statements.

The board members had discussion with Grunewald on the placing of sanitary sewer charges on the tax roll. Grunewald and the village attorney said that the village couldn’t do this legally and that it would cost too much.

Public Works Director Ryan Welsing presented the J&H Controls preventative maintenance service agreement. Welsing stated that the contract provides 20 hours of HVAC technician work. The board approved the contract.

Board members also approved a resolution authorizing the use of special registration deputies for village elections.

The Finance Committee recommended approving the USB Financial Services Resolution appointing James Scheiber and Jo Ann Lesser as authorized representatives.

A new projector screen for the board room was approved with a budgeted cost of no more than $450.

Scheiber presented past trustee James Meinnert with an Appreciation Award for his service as Parks Committee chairman.

Trustee Ed Pahl voiced concerns of the continuing speeding problems throughout the village.

David Benton, new director of the Nu Heights Youth Center, announced that the youth center is open in the old Boys and Girls Club building.

Hours are Monday through Friday 2:50 to 7:30 p.m. and summer hours will be11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
