The joy of music

The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Schools were fortunate to have world-renowned pianist Alpin Hong visit to conduct workshops with students and offer a concert for the enjoyment of the general public. His workshops centered on how popular movie, television and video game music affect the listener and he demonstrated how classical composers use rhythm, harmony and melody to inflfluence an audience emotionally. His visit was supported by the EL-G Foundation, Positively Arts Foundation, area businesses, local residents and the EL-G band and choir. Hong’s combination of stunning technique, emotional range and rare humor had his audience at once reeling in laughter and sitting stunned at his musical ability. A native of Michigan, Hong made his orchestral debut with the Kalamazoo Symphony at the age of 10. He has won the Stravinsky Piano Competition, the SYMF Competition, the Los Angeles Spotlight Award Competition, the Concert Artists Guild Competition and has recently played at the White House.
