Lonergan, Jankowski power PHS to rout

WAUPUN – Junior forward Kasey Lonergan and sophomore forward Olivia Jankowski kicked two goals each to spark the Plymouth Panthers to an 8-0 drubbing of Waupun in a girls soccer match here Tuesday evening.

The Panthers raised their Eastern Wisconsin Conference record to 2-0 (2-3 overall). The Warriors dropped to 0-2 in EWC play (1-5 overall).

Erin Falk, Emily Meinnert, Liz Fohr and Elizabeth Bolland scored one goal apiece. Senior midfielder Mackenzie Haese led in assists with two. Jankowski, Brooke Reichert, Holli Harms and Elle Klecka contributed one assist each.

The Panthers dominated in shots on goal at 24-0. Warrior goalkeeper Jenna Hilt made 16 saves.

“We got after it right away. Three minutes in Erin Falk scored from an assist by Olivia Jankowski. From there, we maintained possession in their [defensive] half most of the game and worked to earn quality shots on goal,” said PHS head coach Brad Feick.

“We still need to direct the ball into the corner and not directly at the keeper. But, to Waupun’s goalie’s credit, she made some nice saves.

“We started the year off with three really tough opponents and struggled to score. It was great to see our forwards, Falk, Jankowski

and Lonergan, score. Our midfielders did a nice job setting up the scoring opportunities,” Feick pointed out.

The Panthers lost their first three matches and scored a total of only one goal.

“Our defenders pushed up well. Kathryn Aukerman and Kaylee Koenig both made aggressive runs from the back to apply pressure,” said the coach.

“Meghan Roelse and Haley Olsen [defenders] both inserted themselves into the attack at different moments. Elle Klecka [midfielder-forward] continued to make hard runs and played solidly at center-mid late in the game.”
