Bachmann sparks Falcons to County Tourney crown

Willeford shared fifth to lead PHS. — Review photo by Steve Ottman SHEBOYGAN FALLS – Sophomore Matt Bachmann earned medalist honors to lead the Sheboygan Falls Falcons to their second straight Sheboygan County Boys Golf Tournament championship here Saturday.

Bachmann, who was also the medalist in last year’s tourney, shot a 6-over-par 78 at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms. He fired an even-par 36 on the front nine and a 42 on the back.

The Falcons finished an impressive 24 strokes ahead of runner up Sheboygan North, 339- 363. Oostburg took third with 373, followed by the Plymouth Panthers at 379.

The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters finished seventh with 417 and the Howards Grove Tigers were ninth at 436 in the 12- team meet.

Freshman Jake Willeford led PHS with a share of fifth place at 87 (43-44).

Elkhart was paced by Antonio Bett who carded a 90 (47-43). The Tigers were led by Matt Bagnall’s 93 (47-46).

“It was good to get a match in. The conditions were tough with lots of wind,” said Panther head coach Dan Knaus whose team had its first two meets postponed due to inclement weather.

“The kids played OK. Jake really played well. It was his first varsity match as a freshman.”

Plymouth’s other low golfers were Aron Schilsky and Jaryd Larson with 97s and Zach Gambrell, 98.

Also scoring for Elkhart were Jake Shovan with a 95, Stephan Clemens, 113 and Elliot Van Oss, 119.

Antonio gutted out a nice 90,” said Resorter head coach Bart Larson.

“He had his wisdom teeth pulled the day before and was hurting, so I give him credit for hanging in there for 18 holes.

“Jake played consistent and had a lot of nice holes. Overall, I was happy. The wind was tough and The Bull is a tough course,” said Larson.

The Tigers’ other low players were Jake Fritz with 109, Jonny Probst, 111 and Tyson Roth, 123.

Falls’ other low golfers included Tyler Beeck who placed third with an 83 (44-39); Matt Andrews, 86; and Nick St.Onge, 92.
