Chili Cook-off benefits REINS

REINS, Inc., a non-profit organization that offers equine-assisted activities and therapies to special needs individuals in Sheboygan, Manitowoc and Calumet counties has received a $1,662 donation from the Route 43 Harley-Davidson Annual Chili Cook-off and a $1,000 donation from National Mutual Benefit “A Fraternal Life Insurance Society.” In January Route 43 Harley-Davidson hosted its Ninth Annual Chili Cook-off. Seventeen contestants competed for the title of Best Chili. REINS’ board members Deana Hamel and Rebecca Flagstad-Becker took second place with their all-fresh-ingredients chili, guacamole and homemade queso blanco. Over 150 people taste-tested and voted on their favorite chili from among the contestants. The event also included a basket auction and raffle items. Proceeds from the Chili Cook-off benefited the REINS therapeutic riding and equine-facilitated learning programs. Additionally, National Mutual Benefit, “A Fraternal Life Insurance Society,” pledged to match the amount raised by the Chili Cook-off up to $1,000.
