BARBARA A. SIEGERT

Barbara A. Siegert of Plymouth, Wis., passed away peacefully Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

Barbara was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Howards Grove, Wis., to Paul Burhop and Elsie Schmidt Burhop. She received her high school diploma from Howards Grove High School. It was there that she met Roger Siegert, a classmate of hers in a graduating class of nine students. Barbara and Roger became high school sweethearts.

On Aug. 21, 1954, Barbara and Roger were married in Howards Grove. They had three children, Larry Siegert, Brian Siegert and Lori Siegert.

Following marriage, Barbara and Roger moved to Ames, Iowa. It was there that Barbara received her PhT degree. PhT was an acronym for “Putting Hubby Through,” a degree she earned in recognition of her invaluable contribution to Roger obtaining his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University. Roger and Barbara founded the Plymouth Veterinary Center in Plymouth, Wis., and operated it together for many years, with Barbara serving as office manager. Prior to holding that job, Barbara had worked during high school in her father’s business, Kuester & Burhop Ford Garage, and as a receptionist, bookkeeper and admittance person at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital.

Aside from her family and work in the veterinary clinic, Barbara had many other interests. Chief among them was the game of golf. She took up golf at age 46 and became quite proficient, playing in as many as three golf leagues each season. She even scored a nine-hole total of 43 in the week before her health turned for the worse. She also greatly enjoyed playing bridge and participated in many leagues. Her golf and bridge friends were very important to her. During her children’s younger years, she was a Cub Scout leader and worked in the school Red Cross Health Program. She and Roger also were active in the Sheboygan County 4-H.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Roger Siegert; and children, Larry Siegert (Pamela Fitzer) of Plymouth, Brian Siegert of Howards Grove and Lori Siegert of Plymouth. Her grandchildren are Dr. Stephanie Siegert of Howards Grove, Kimberly (Bryan) Van De Kreeke of San Clemente, Calif., Rebecca Schwab of Plymouth and fiancé Josh Janezick, and Jacob Schwab of Plymouth and step grandchildren, Juliane (Rob) Rohs of Louisville, Colo., and Danielle (Jonathan) Goldstein of Littleton, Colo. Her great-grandchildren are Connor Van De Kreeke and Emmit Van De Kreeke; and step great-grandchildren are Benn Rohs, Matthew Rohs and Kate Rohs, Eli Goldstein and Vivienne Goldstein. She is further survived by her sister, Janice Houle; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Barbara was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth with Senior Pastor Rev. Nathan Meador officiating. Burial will follow in the Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, April 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at the church Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
